BOSTON (AP) – The Boston Celtics will visit the White House to celebrate their 17th NBA championship with President Bush.

The team will attend a ceremony Friday afternoon with the president. The Celtics plan to give him a personalized jersey and an autographed basketball.

Boston beat the Los Angeles Lakers in six games in June to win its first championship in 22 years.

On Thursday, fans lined up at the Connecticut state Capitol to see the championship trophy and former UConn star Ray Allen.

Celtics guards Tony Allen and Rajon Rondo, team president Rich Gotham and former player JoJo White also were in attendance.

The group shared the trophy with fans at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield earlier Thursday.

Miles suspended 10 games

NEW YORK – Boston Celtics forward Darius Miles has been suspended without pay for 10 games for violating the terms of the anti-drug program at the end of the 2007-08 season.

Miles’ suspension will begin with the first game of the 2008-09 regular season for which he is eligible and physically able to play. Miles has missed the past two NBA seasons because of knee injuries. He has averaged 10.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in his career.

The 26-year-old was selected third overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2000 draft.

He signed with the Celtics last month.
