State Rep. Timothy Carter, D-Bethel, is announcing his campaign for re-election to the Maine House of Representatives for District 91.
The district includes Bethel, Eustis, Gilead, Hanover, Kingfield, Newry, Rangeley, Stoneham, Upton, Woodstock, Dallas, Lincoln and Magalloway plantations and several unorganized territories in Franklin and Oxford counties.
Carter is a sixth-generation farmer from Bethel with a deep commitment and service record to Western Maine citizens, he said in a written statement.
He is a University of Maine at Orono graduate with a degree in agricultural sciences. After serving in the U.S. Army for two years, he returned to Bethel to run the family farm.
In 1994, he was appointed to the post of northeast area director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, serving until 2001.
Carter spent the past two years in the State House on the Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry Committee.
“I believe that wood-to-energy technology can help solve our heating crisis and sustain our local Western Maine economy, providing good paying jobs well into the future,” he said in the statement. “The development of this and other new businesses is the way to ensure quality employment and tax relief to rural Maine’s population.”
Carter is working his way through the district, speaking with voters door to door.
