BUCKFIELD – Selectmen on Tuesday approved the warrant for a special town meeting to be held at 9:50 a.m. Nov. 4 to elect a selectman and decide on a school consolidation plan.

The meeting will be held in the Municipal Center voting room.

Perley Lovejoy and John Lowell returned nomination papers for the post held by Selectman Oscar Gammon, who died.

Roger Bennett and Alan Young also took out papers but had not returned them.

The school merger plan proposes to bring SADs 39, 21 in Dixfield and 43 in Rumford, and the town of Hanover together as one system.

In other business Tuesday, the board continued its review of town employee job descriptions, specifically looking at that of public works superintendent. At present, no one holds that position.

The job would involve both administrative and field work, which would include supervision and assistance on road projects, maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment and inspecting contractors’ work.

The board was reminded of:

• SAD 39 hearings on the school consolidation plan Oct. 8 and 21 at the Buckfield High School.

• a meeting on wind energy with Kirk Nadeau, president of Wind Energy of Turner, on Oct. 15 in Sumner.

The board accepted resignations from Penny Holmes and Amy Beaucage from the Recreational Committee.
