AUBURN – Dr. Allyson Hughes Handley, president of the University of Maine at Augusta, visited Central Maine Community College recently.
Handley, who went to UMA in March, has a long background in higher education leadership and policy. She served as president of Midway College in Kentucky and of Cogswell College in California. Prior to joining UMA she was a senior policy adviser for postsecondary economic development initiatives for the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.
Handley discussed transfer options for CMCC students with President Scott Knapp and Liz Oken, director of transfer/advising. The college has formal transfer agreements with UMA and a number of other colleges and universities.
The agreements facilitate the transfer of CMCC graduates to baccalaureate institutions and ensure that their associate degree credits will apply toward their baccalaureate degree.
Dr. Selma Botman, the new president of the University of Southern Maine, also visited the CMCC campus recently. In addition, Dr. Knapp has visited both new presidents at their respective campuses in an effort to continue the working relationship the college has with both universities.
