RUMFORD – Mountain Valley coach Jim Aylward is stressing to his unbeaten football team to not take anything for granted. That mantra continues to drive the Falcons.

Sophomore quarterback Cameron Kaubris threw a pair of touchdown passes to Travis Ruff in the first half, and the Falcons controlled the lines of scrimmage Friday night to remain unbeaten with a 46-0 shutout over Greely at Hosmer Field.

Mountain Valley (6-0) established its dominance early and never looked back. Five different runners – Justin Staires, Matt Laubauskas, John Gorham, Matt Duka and Tom Puiia – each scored, and the ground game compiled 380 yards on 58 carries. The Falcons led 32-0 at the half.

Josh Allen set things in motion by recovering a fumble on the opening kickoff. Two plays later, Kaubris (5 of 6 for 126 yards) rolled right and threw to Ruff, who was wide open for a 31-yard touchdown. The tandem hooked up again on a 34-yard strike on the first play of the second quarter.

“This team is great to work with,” Kaubris said. “Especially the line with Ryan Laubauskas and Kenny Grant on the rollouts and (Cole Clark, Nick Taylor, Brian Cogley) on the back side. I cant say enough about them.”

The highest scoring team in state can move the ball on the ground, also. Staires gained 194 yards on 23 carries – 150 in the first half, including a 6-yard touchdown.

Greely (3-3) pinned the Falcons back on the 7-yard line, but five plays later, Matt Laubauskas bulled in from 5 yards away. Steven Jeselskis then recovered a fumble, and Gorham scored on a 2-yard run.

“Its fun to run behind our line,” Gorham said. “Plus, we have some older guys back there and we feed off each other.”

The Rangers were held to 25 yards and quarterback Nate Martin and Erik Thayer was unable to dodge the Falcons front seven. Duka had two sacks and ends Christian Durland and John Gorham maintained position.

Still, Mountain Valley has some areas to secure. It fumbled the ball three times, losing one, and had some confusion getting in formation.

Greely recovered an onside kick to begin the third quarter.

“Well, we played one good half of football,” Aylward said. “But, we need to be able to play an entire game or we’ll be in trouble (against Falmouth) next week.”
