What is the reason L.L. Bean and many ski areas don’t want a casino in Maine?
The real reason is temporary help at peak season. Without that help, they would be in serious trouble. They would have to compete with a casino for jobs that would provide better income and benefits.
They say a casino does not fit with the state. What a joke. Just another case of “not in my neighborhood.”
A casino in Oxford would bring in much needed full-time jobs with benefits – about 800 jobs.
At one time, the Oxford area had many jobs that fit with the state of Maine: mobile home factories, leather factory, bobsled factory, dowel factory, shoe factory, wool factory, etc. Those are gone, never coming back.
So what is the solution? What will replace the jobs lost during the last 20 years?
