TURNER – Kristen Capen stopped all seven shots, and Krissy Ellis scored an unassisted goal off a rebound in the first half to lift Leavitt to a 2-0 victory over Nokomis in the KVAC Class B championship game on Friday.
Leavitt held the early advantage in penalty corners in a game between the top-ranked teams in the KVAC East and West divisions. Ellis finally gave the Hornets the edge at 14:23 when she beat Nokomis goalie Maria Adams on the short side after Adams made the initial stop.
The Hornets finally got some breathing room when Courtney Erskine scored off a penalty corner on pass from MyKayla McCann with 5:31 to play.
The Warriors pressed the attack in the final five minutes, but they were continually frustrated by Capen in goal. Megan Miller, Molly Hibler, Brittnay Curtis, Kylie Vincent, Amanda Jordan and Ellis provided defensive support.
Leavitt had a slight edge in shots, 8-7, and enjoyed a 9-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Adams made four saves in goal for Nokomis.
