Healthy eating

LEWISTON – “Healthy Eating, Healthy Lifestyle to Prevent Chronic Disease” is the topic of the next installment of a multi-part Mini-Medical School series being offered by Central Maine Medical Center and the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute from 6:30 to 8 p.m.Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Dr. Timothy Howe, medical director of wellness and diabetes education at Parkview Adventist Medical Center in Brunswick, will discuss whether Type II diabetes can be reversed or forestalled with lifestyle modifications.

BP pressure clinic

LEWISTON – A free blood pressure clinic will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Downtown Education Collaborative, 219 Lisbon St. It will be offered by the faculty and medical assisting students at Andover College and Central Maine Community College.

Boston trip

LEWISTON – Members of the community are invited to join Lewiston Adult Education on Saturday, Nov. 8, for a day trip to historic Boston. There, participants will take the Freedom Trail’s “Pirates, Privateers and Patriots” Marine History Tour.

Following the tour, participants will have time to visit Quincy Market. Participants will meet their coach at the Lewiston Park and Ride at 7 a.m., and the bus will depart from Boston at 6 p.m.

School fair

MANCHESTER – The Manchester Elementary School Parent Teacher Community Organization is hosting its annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the school. It will feature junior crafters. A concession stand will be open throughout.

Proceeds will benefit the enrichment programs at Manchester Elementary School. For information, contact Doris at 622-9856.

Veterans event

AUBURN – American Legion Post 31, 426 Washington St., will open at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11. Veterans from Maine Veterans’ Home in Paris will be guests for lunch at noon.

Music and entertainment will be Paul Farrell’s musical group, the Silver Tones. All area veterans are invited. Call the post for meal reservations at 783-6992. Cost will be a donation of $4.

Giving Tree

BOWDOIN – The Bowdoin Community Giving Tree Project is accepting names for holiday gift-giving needs.

The annual program was created to assist families by providing gifts for children of Bowdoin for Christmas. To have children’s names included on the list or those who know of a family in need of assistance, contact Karen Mayo at 666-3375.

All information submitted is confidential. All names must be received by Nov. 14. Those who would like to make a donation should contact Mayo at the number above.
