RUMFORD – Area people will have a chance to hear the views of candidates on issues such as a casino, school merger, the local economy and other matters at a Candidates Forum set for 4 p.m., Wednesday.

The event, sponsored by the River Valley Chamber of Commerce, takes place in the lobby of the Bangor Savings Bank on Congress Street.

Chamber administrator Cherri Crockett said as of Friday afternoon that the following candidates agreed to participate: Oxford County Commissioner David Duguay of Byron; Register of Probate Tom Winsor of Paris; state Rep. Sheryl Briggs, D-Dixfield, and challengers, William Hine, an independent from Peru, and Trevis Knapp, an independent from Dixfield; Judge of Probate Dana Hanley, Paris; and Jarrod Crockett, East Bethel, Republican candidate for District 91 House seat.

Crockett said chamber president Joseph Roberts will moderate. Written questions will be submitted by chamber members and other attendees.

Crockett said the chamber held similar forums in the past, but as chamber breakfasts. This year, the group wanted to give more people a chance to participate, ask questions and become more aware of the candidates and the issues.
