RUMFORD – Members of the Shared Use Kitchen Committee will tour the third floor of the River Valley Technology Center when they meet on Oct. 28.
The regular monthly meeting of the group begins at 4:30 p.m. at the technology center.
Sponsored by the River Valley Growth Council, the Shared Use Kitchen Committee aims to develop a site that would allow small businesses that work with food to share a facility.
The growth council and Mark Hews, facilitator of the group from Threshold to Maine, have applied for grants and plan to apply for more that would help fund a renovation of the third floor of what was once part of a bag mill. The technology center is located on the first floor.
A survey was distributed recently to gauge interest and needs of area food-related businesses. A shared kitchen would have necessary licenses and permits needed to produce a food product.
The Shared Use Kitchen Committee is trying to determine which appliances and other equipment would be needed the most.
