LEWISTON – A Lewiston couple faces multiple charges including cultivation of marijuana after police were called to their Birch Street home for a report of animal cruelty and say they discovered a closet full of pot.

Kenneth C. Simpson, 21, of 101 Birch St., was charged Sunday with cultivating marijuana, domestic violence threatening, cruelty to animals, disorderly conduct and refusing to submit to arrest. Police were called to his apartment at 2:20 p.m. after an unidentified caller reported that Simpson was kicking his dog repeatedly.

Upon arrival, officers said they found marijuana growing in a closet in the apartment that Simpson shared with Heather Hudson, 21. Hudson was also charged with cultivating marijuana, disorderly conduct and refusing to submit to arrest.

It was unknown Sunday night whether or not officers seized the dog that led to the Sunday afternoon call to the couple’s apartment.
