SABATTUS – In the slate of local races next Tuesday, only one is contested: a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen.

Donald Laliberty and Scott Lansley are running for that seat. Both would be new to the board. So is the one person running for the one-year term on the board, Jeffrey Baril, according to Town Clerk Suzanne Adams.

The town needs to fill four spots on the new Regional School Unit No. 4 board, overseeing newly consolidated Wales, Litchfield and Sabattus. Four people are running for the new director spots: Robert Gayton Jr., Patrick Madden, Gregoire Provost and Philip Webber Sr.

Three people are running for four school board vacancies: Robert Gayton Jr., Patrick Madden and Philip Webber Sr. Only Webber would be new to the post.

School Union 44 Business Manager Chris Trenholm said the school board would disband in June 2009. In the meantime, the new RSU will start convening in early December with two items of business: hire a superintendent and work on the 2009-2010 school budget. People running for RSU director seats will serve either one, two or three-year terms, to be decided by drawing after the election, he said.

Two people are running for two spots as Sanitary Water District trustee: Richard Behr and Walter Wood. Behr would be new to the post. The terms last three years.

Michael Gendron is running for re-election to the Budget Committee, the only person on the ballot for that three-year term.

The Town Office at 190 Middle Road will be open for voting on Election Day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Absentee voting is still possible. Ballots can be picked up during office hours Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents who have not registered to vote need to bring identification and proof of residence.
