PORTLAND (AP) – The start of the new work week is bringing lower gasoline prices to Maine motorists.

According to AAA, a gallon of regular was averaging $2.56 on Monday. That’s down 3 cents from Sunday and 93 cents from a month ago, and is $1.58 a gallon cheaper than the peak price recorded on July 16.

AAA says the price of gas nationally now averages $2.41 a gallon, which is $1.14 lower than a month ago.
