MEXICO – The Police Department received a $2,800 grant from the Bureau of Highway Safety to assist with the costs of safety belt and operating under the influence enforcement.

Sgt. Roy Hodsdon said this is the first time his department received a grant to cover the holiday season patrol work. The department has received similar grants in the past to help fund additional details during the summer months and long weekends.

The additional police patrols began Oct. 30 and will extend through Jan. 4, 2009. Hodsdon said as of Friday, five summonses have been issued and one arrest made due to the additional patrols.
