LEWISTON – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society will be sponsoring its annual rabies clinic on Saturday, Nov. 15. The clinic is open to the public for all dogs and cats over three months of age.

The clinic will be held at the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, 55 Strawberry Ave., 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Vaccinations will be available for $10 an animal, and rabies tags will be issued.

If your pet has been vaccinated in the past, you must bring the old rabies certificate. Auburn City Clerk Mary Lou Magno will attend to issue 2008 dog licenses for Auburn residents. The money raised will be used to fund the Humane Society’s Community Spay Neuter Program.

So far this year, there have been 49 confirmed cases of rabies in Maine; six of those in the Lewiston-Auburn area. In 2007, of the 86 confirmed Maine cases, 15 were in L-A and one of those was a domestic cat. It is extremely important that dogs and cats are vaccinated and receive follow-up boosters to reduce to potential of rabies transmission. For more information, go to their Web site www.gahumane.org.
