LEWISTON – The Atrium Art Gallery at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College will sponsor “Area Artists 2009,” the biennial juried exhibition open to visual artists in all media who live or work in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. Artists may submit up to two works to be juried; there is no entry fee. Delivery dates are Friday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at USM/Lewiston-Auburn, 51 Westminster St. in Lewiston.

All media will be considered from paintings, drawings, prints and photography to works in clay, fiber, wood, metal and other 3-dimensional media. Jurors for the exhibition are Lois Strickland and Nancy Romines Walters.

Strickland is landscape painter with work in private and public collections. She is represented by West Island Gallery in Georgetown and Northeast Fine Art and Design in Northeast Harbor.

Romines Walters creates sculptural installations in a combination of materials including fiber, wood, stone, metal, plastics and related works on paper. Her exhibition credits include galleries in New York City, Maine and internationally.

The exhibition will open in the Atrium Gallery at USM L-A College on Jan. 20 and continue through March 20. The opening reception is 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23.
