MEXICO – A 23-year-old Rumford woman was still being treated at Rumford Hospital on Monday night for injuries sustained in a accident in the late afternoon.

Nicole Blodgett of Cumberland Street was injured when the Mitsubishi Montero sports utility vehicle she was driving west struck an empty 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck that was parked on the north side of Main Street, police said.

She was transported to the hospital by Med-Care Ambulance Service.

Mexico police officer Brad Gallant said the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The pickup truck, owned by Jay and Christine Gerrish of Rumford, sustained considerable damage to the back end and the bumper. Also, several containers of oil, which were in the truck’s cargo bed, were splashed on Blodgett’s vehicle as well as on the street. Members of the Mexico Fire Department cleaned up the oil and assisted with traffic control.

Blodgett’s vehicle was destroyed.
