MEXICO – Grace Maude Stanley turned 100 on Nov. 3, celebrating at a party organized by nephew Lee Stanley and his wife, Nancy, of Gorham.

Kevin White played a violin, made in 1915 by Leon Haines, for those assembled. He offered “Amazing Grace” for Stanley and “How Great Thou Art,” among other numbers.

On behalf of the town of Mexico, she was presented a “Happy 100th Birthday Certificate,” and she was given a letter/proclamation sent by Gov. John Baldacci. Rep. Sheryl Briggs presented Stanley with a sentiment from the 123rd Legislature and an American flag that flew at the State Capitol.

Upon receiving the awards, Stanley said, “I don’t know what to say. Just thank you.” She also said with good humor, “I’m not giving a speech.”

Stanley received the Boston Post cane from the town of Mexico last year. She was born Nov. 3, 1908.
