TURNER – Courtney Anderson scored 18 of her game-high 28 points in a decisive first quarter as Leavitt rolled to a 51-35 victory over Morse in their season-opening KVAC girls’ basketball game Friday.
Anderson drained three 3-point field goals in the quarter, which saw the Hornets jump out to a 23-5 lead. Adrianna Newton added 12 points while hauling down 13 rebounds.
Sara Fitzgerald paced the Shipbuilders with 12 points.
Buckfield 59, Gould 32
BETHEL – Lindsay Henderson tossed in 14 points and Abby Jones added 13 to help Buckfield cruise to a 59-32 triumph over Gould in girls’ basketball action Friday night.
The Bucks led 29-18 at the half and pulled away in the third quarter. Emily Eastman chipped in with 10 points.
Gould was paced by Siana Siekman, who scored 12 points, while Micheala Cummings contributed 10.
Cony 70, Lewiston 42
LEWISTON – Courtney Dufour poured in 17 points as Cony pulled away for a 70-42 victory over Lewiston in a girls’ KVAC basketball game Friday night.
The Rams led by nine points at the intermission before outscoring the Blue Devils 38-19 in the second half. Nine of Dufour’s points came from behind the 3-point line. Holly Parker chipped in with 11 points.
Jamie Swart was high scorer for the Blue Devils with 12 points while Kim Archibald added seven points and 13 rebounds.
Messalonskee 59, Mt. Blue 31
FARMINGTON – Kaitlyn Deering tossed in 13 points to help Messalonskee garner a 59-31 triumph over Mt. Blue in KVAC girls’ basketball Friday.
The Eagles held a comfortable lead throughout the game. The Cougars cut the deficit to eight points midway through the third quarter before the visitors pulled away. Hannah Dexter added 10 points in the win.
Mt. Blue was paced by Jillian Perron, who scored six points, while pulling down eight rebounds. Sabrina Keach had five points and grabbed eight boards as well.
Oak Hill 52, Erskine 41
SOUTH CHINA – Ambyr Provost and Alex Donald each scored 14 points as Oak Hill put away Erskine Academy for 52-41 victory in a girls’ basketball opener Friday night.
The score was tied 19-19 at the half when the Raiders opened up a seven-point advantage after three and piled up 22 points in the final quarter. Carrie Hayden had 13 points for the Raiders.
For Erskine, Kaci Hudson was the only double-digit scorer with 16 points.
Brunswick 36, Oxford Hills 33
SOUTH PARIS – Alexa Dearborn’s six free throws in the fourth quarter helped Brunswick capture a 36-33 win over Oxford Hills in a KVAC girls’ basketball game Friday.
Dearborn scored eight of her team-high 14 points in the fourth. Megan Joyce netted 14 points to pace the Vikings.
York 61, Poland 14
YORK – Twin towers Meredith Reid and Nikki Taylor combined for 27 points to help York roll to a 61-14 win over Poland in a Western Maine Conference girls’ basketball game Friday night.
The two 6-footers controlled the paint throughout as the Wildcats outscored the visitors 20-0 in the first quarter and held a 30-3 advantage at the half. Taylor led all scorers with 15 points while Reid added 12. Stephanie Gallagher chipped in with 10.
Kelsie Taylor hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with six points to pace the Knights.
Gray-NG 53, Freeport 25
GRAY – Junior center Kassie Wilson recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 53-25 triumph over Freeport in WMC girls’ basketball action Friday evening.
The Patriots held Freeport to no field field goals in the first half and took a 23-6 lead into intermission. Senior guards Rachel Clement and Terri Lynn Sanborn tallied 12 points each for Gray-New Gloucester.
Senior guard Rachael Foster paced the Falcons with a game-high 14 points. Freeport held their own in the second half, outscoring the Patriots by a margin of 19-15 in the frame.
