BRUNSWICK – Josh Childs scored nine of his game-high 11 points in the second quarter to help Oxford Hills to a 64-49 KVAC boys’ basketball victory over Brunswick Friday night in the seaosn opener.

The Vikings led 17-14 after one quarter of play before outscoring the Dragons 22-9 in the second. Cody Hadley also scored 11 points for the Vikings.

Steve Carter led the Dragons with nine points.

Erskine 46, Oak Hill 39

WALES – Tyler Harvey netted 17 points to help Erskine capture a 46-39 triumph over Oak Hill in KVAC boys’ basketball action Friday night.

The Raiders got off to a sluggish start, hitting just three of their 10 free throws through the first three quarters of play. The Eagles forced them into 23 turnovers.

Ben Rines led Oak Hill with 14 points with Ben Foss chipping in with 10.

York 52, Poland 43

POLAND – Junior forward Jason Gorman drained a game-high 19 points to lead York to a 52-43 triumph over Poland in WMC boys’ basketball action Friday evening.

The teams battled fierce in the first half as the Wildcats (1-0) drew even at 25-25 before intermission. Dan Sheean contributed 13 points for York.

Junior center Kevin Payette and junior forward Mike Littlefield shared a team-high 10 points for the Knights in the losing effort.

Gould 60, Buckfield 41

BETHEL – Abram Bartlett scored 17 points and George Murphy added 13 to lead Gould to a 60-44 boys’ basketball victory over Buckfield.

The Huskies successfully fought off Buckfield’s 3-point attack. The Bucks sank seven from behind the arc, led By Kyle Rines’ three.

Scott Baribeau added 11 points for Gould. Rines led Buckfield with 14, while Bryan Litchfield had seven.

Waynflete 44, St. Dom’s 43, OT

PORTLAND – Haissan Jeylani swished a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Waynflete a 44-43 overtime victory over St. Dom’s in a Western Maine Conference boys’ basketball season opener Friday night.

With the final seconds ticking away, an offensive rebound was tipped out to Jeylani on the wing. Jeylani calmly sank the trey for the win. John Malia led the Flyers with 18 points, while Cecil Gardner contributed 13.

The Saints were led by Aaron Allen, who scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while Greg LaBonte turned in an 11-point, 13-rebound performance.

Morse 50, Leavitt 35

BATH – Morse jumped out to a nine-point advantage in the first quarter to keep Leavitt at bay for a 50-35 triumph in a season-opening boys’ basketball contest.

Alex Kee led the Shipbuilders with 18 points. No one else reached double digits.

Doug Nash scored 18 points to keep the Hornets in contention. Jordan Hersom grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds.

Cony 70, Lewiston 61

AUGUSTA – Center Ben Carville scored 23 points to power Cony to a 70-61 victory over Lewiston in KVAC boys’ basketball action Friday.

Cony had four players in double digits. Besides Carville, Greg O’Neill tossed 16 points, while Jay Lachance collected 12 points and Chris Partridge provided 10 points.

The Rams capitalized on several turnovers in the first half, taking a 32-25 lead at the midpoint. Before the final buzzer, Cony had nailed down 85 percent from the free-throw line.

Junior forward Ronnie Turner notched a team-high 15 points for the Blue Devils (0-1), while senior center Omar Mohamud recorded 12 points.
