Gov. John Baldacci set the date for the special election to fill Janet Mills’ seat in the state Legislature on Monday.

The election for House District 89, which includes Farmington and Industry, will be held Feb. 3, 2009, a statement from the governor’s office said.

The official announcement, signed by Baldacci and Secretary of State Matt Dunlap, was issued to members of the Democratic, Green Independent and Republican committees of the two Franklin County towns. The committees are asked to nominate their candidates for the seat by 5 p.m. Jan. 5.

Mills, who was re-elected to her fourth legislative term in November, resigned her seat after being elected Maine’s attorney general earlier this month.
