Held on October 9, there was a celebration for the 100th Pediatric Care at Maine Medical Center. You could call and donate money to help children in need for better equipment. But I’m going to be talking about the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, which is located inside of the Maine Medical Center. They treat kids with serious conditions and life threatening sicknesses. It is one of the country’s leading children’s hospitals.

My little four year old cousin “Dougie” was put into Barbara Bush’s Children’s Hospital in the middle of April this year. They thought it was just the flu so they traveled him to the doctors and they sent him back saying it was just the normal flu.

So when little Dougie went home he kept getting worse; it seemed like it just never stopped, he was put through so much pain. His mom rushed him to the E.R. and it was way more serious than the flu. Dougie had appendicitis and it burst sometime when he was at home. So right when he got there they checked him right out, found out what was wrong, and started treating his condition. The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital kept him through that brutal night. That night they weren’t sure if little Dougie was going to make it. But thanks to the Barbara Bush’s Children’s Hospital, Dougie lasted the night. But it wasn’t over. He had one more surgery after to clean everything up and see if it was all set. Dougie stayed in the hospital for another month recovering and healing. He was a tough cookie throughout that month. I mean not being able to get out of the hospital to run and play. That’s hard for a little four year old boy.

So I just want to thank Barbara Bush’s Children’s Hospital for helping my little cousin Dougie. I am very happy that he is up and running like a normal little boy, with his special fire truck that the nurse gave to him. So again, thank you for helping Dougie!
