ANDOVER – A sprinkler system was credited for stopping a fire in between two roofs at Andover Wood Products Inc. late Friday afternoon.

According to Andover fire Second Assistant Chief Butch Glover, the fire started at about 4:45 p.m. when material in roofs over the top of a boiler overheated and ignited.

“The sprinklers did their job and knocked it down. We just did overhaul when we arrived,” Glover said early Friday evening.

Both Andover and Rumford firefighters and Med-Care Ambulance responded. There were no injuries.

“We had to cut the roof open to get into it, but there was no damage that we know of to machinery and equipment below,” Glover said.

The wood-dimension mill, which is owned by Ethan Allen Operations Inc., produces panels which are shipped to other Ethan Allen manufacturing plants throughout the Northeast for assembly.

Glover estimated damage at $2,000.

“They should be up and running by Monday,” he added.
