BOSTON (AP) – Masssachusetts authorities have arrested a man they say embezzled millions of dollars over a period of more than a year from a “national entertainer” with local ties who was also his client.

The attorney general’s office declined to name the entertainer, but said that between July 2007 and December 2008, 43-year-old Darryl McCauley of Wilmington stole millions from the client’s business accounts by transferring funds to his personal accounts.

Comedian Dane Cook, a Boston-area native, has a brother of the same name. McCauley could not be reached for comment. Calls to Cook’s manager and agent were not immediately returned.

Police said McCauley has been the entertainer’s manager since the early 1990s. In one instance, investigators said McCauley forged a $3 million check written from his client’s account.

McCauley is expected to be arraigned Wednesday in Woburn District Court.

Cook appeared this year in “My Best Friend’s Girl,” with Kate Hudson and Jason Biggs.
