LEWISTON – Katie Doyle has been named mentor of the month.
Doyle is a senior at Lewiston High School and has been a Big Sister in the Child Health Center’s Sited-Based Mentoring Program for the last four years.
During that time she has mentored eight “Littles” and given more than 400 hours of her time. She has also been an advocate for the mentoring program and spoke to the United Way Committee this year about her experience and that of her Littles.
Her enthusiasm for the program has been compelling to all those who have come in contact with her and the Child Health Center recognizes her as a strong example of how one person can make a difference in the life of a child.
Doyle said the program has not only helped her Littles, it has helped her grow and look toward the future.
“I have been very lucky to have been able to work with a very diverse group of children. This program has taught me so much. That teaching and mentoring children is my passion and one person can truly make a difference. I hope that the friendship and support I have given to these children will be something they carry with them forever. I know they have changed me for good,” she said.
Anyone interested in becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister should call the Child Health Center at 782-5437 and ask for Big Brothers Big Sisters or send an e-mail to [email protected].
