FARMINGTON – Employees of Farmington’s Wal-Mart gathered Tuesday morning for their daily meeting, but this one was special.
Members of Farmington’s American Legion Post 28 and Auxiliary and the leader of the Young Marines presented two four-foot by six-foot American flags and two state flags to the store in recognition of all the company does for the community, said District Commander Charles Bennett.
The U.S. flag and a state flag hang inside above both entrances to the store. When the flags began to fade Peter Zanoni asked the Legion to order new flags for the store, but the three organizations chose to provide the flags for the store.
Newly-elected state Attorney General Janet Mills spoke about the flag Tuesday as a few customers joined the employees.
Store manager Dan Durran and Zanoni accepted the flags from Post 28 Commander Joe Kempton, Auxiliary President Betty Gatchell and Gordon Webber, leader of the Young Marines. Legion members Sherry Kempton and Les Gatchell also attended.
