TORONTO (AP) – Linemates Jason Pominville and Derek Roy each scored two goals to help the Buffalo Sabres beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1 on Thursday night.

Roy also added an assist, and Thomas Vanek and Drew Stafford each had two assists. Ryan Miller stopped Niklas Hagman on a penalty shot, and finished with 27 saves.

John Mitchell scored for Toronto.

After Miller stopped Hagman on the penalty shot late in the first period, Buffalo scored three times in less than 5 minutes in the middle of the second period.

Buffalo, 1-2-2 in its previous five games, improved to 18-15-5. Toronto lost for the fourth time in five games to fall to 15-17-6.

Buffalo moved into a tie with Carolina for eighth place in the Eastern Conference, while Toronto remained 11th – five points behind the Sabres and Hurricanes.

Pominville has three goals in three games after scoring just once in his previous 17 contests. The 26-year-old right wing has 12 goals in 38 games this season.

Toronto’s Curtis Joseph made 16 saves in his second consecutive start. The 41-year-old goalie earned his 450th NHL victory Tuesday night against Atlanta.

Notes: Buffalo was 2-for-4 on the power play, while Toronto went 0-for-5. … Leafs forwards Jeremy Williams (bruised left shoulder) and Matt Stajan (blurred vision) didn’t play. Toronto recalled Jiri Tlusty from the AHL’s Marlies and the 20-year-old left wing skated on a line with Moore and Jason Blake.
