Several local racewalkers earned national recognition in recent invitational track and field meets.

Tyler Campbell, a Lisbon High School senior, captured the gold medal in the men’s one-mile racewalk at the Brown University high school invitational in Providence, R.I. Campbell completed the eight-lap walk in a time of 8 minutes, 3.44 seconds. He finished just under 34 seconds ahead of silver medalist Charlie Swerdlow of Falmouth. Fairfield Bonsall, a sophomore at Mt. Blue High School, finished fourth.

Maine sealed fifth, sixth and seventh in the women’s walk. Abby Dunn of Edward Little led that pack in 9:11.15, followed by Lewiston’s Nicole Court-Menendez in 9:29.94 and Emily Reed of Mt. Blue in 10:00.35.

Christie Bernier of EL posted two outstanding finishes in the Texas Walk Week Extravaganza, a winter workout camp orchestrated by two-time Olympic racewalker Tim Seaman.

Bernier finished eighth in the one-mile event and seventh in the 5-kilometer race.
