FARMINGTON – Henderson Memorial Baptist Church will offer a new adult study based on the book by Dan Kimball, “They Like Jesus But Not the Church.” The course is being offered from 9 to 10 a.m. Sundays and is open to the community. Anyone interested is welcome.

“They Like Jesus But Not the Church” will feature a video curriculum and discussion. Having participants with no church affiliation or other-church affiliation will enhance the discussion.

Kimball is a pastor at Vintage Faith Church in Santa Cruz, Calif. He is well-known as a leader in the emergent church movement. Statistics reveal an exodus from the church by younger people who are “spiritual, but not religious.”

Kimball determined to find out why by asking younger people outside the church if they liked Jesus. The answer, he found, is usually yes. But ask if they like the church, and the answers are usually less favorable.

The class will address several questions younger people raise about the difference they perceive between Jesus and “organized religion.” Isn’t the church just organized religion?

The study will provide participants with an opportunity to discuss some of culture’s resistance to Christianity. For more information, call 778-2163. Henderson Memorial is an American Baptist church located at 110 Academy St.
