Head Start receives snowsuits
LEWISTON – The Androscoggin Valley Board of Realtors presented Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care with approximately 75 snowsuits, as well as a cash donation to purchase winter boots and socks for children in Head Starts programs. The presentation was made during the board’s annual holiday party at the Ramada Inn. Rita Conner of Coldwell Banker Millett Realty chaired the 2008 Operation Snowsuit drive.
“This annual gift has made a huge impact on the children and families in our programs,” said Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care Executive Director Estelle Rubinstein. “As any parent knows, children are constantly growing, and most of the time, their snow gear does not fit from one year to the next, so it is passed down to a younger sibling. It is a considerable expense to purchase snow pants, winter jacket and boots, as well as hat and mittens. These donations from our local realtors, and those associated with the buying and selling of real estate, ensures that many of Head Start’s children will be warm this winter. Our children and families are so thankful for their support.”
Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care has provided child development services for more than 43 years. Services are provided annually to more than 900 children and families throughout Androscoggin County. Centers are located in Lewiston, Auburn, Lisbon Falls, Livermore Falls and Mechanic Falls.
