NORWAY – Norway Memorial Library will match people with work projects at nonprofit organizations in downtown Norway through the Martin Luther King Day of Service Program on Monday, Jan. 19.

Called “A Day On, Not A Day Off,” the program will begin at the library at 12:30 p.m. with a brief introduction. It is open to adults and teens in grades seven through 12.

At 1 p.m., volunteers will head to their designated sites and spend two hours at the organizations, returning to the library for a program of reflection and refreshments that will end at 4 p.m.

Examples of jobs needing to be done include inventory work, oiling wood floors, snow removal, archiving records, assisting in setting up office space, writing thank-you notes, spring cleaning, cleaning and organizing shelves and baking for a church community lunch.

Participating organizations include Christ Episcopal Church, Fare Share Food Co-Op, Healthy Oxford Hills, Norway Downtown Association, Norway Historical Society, Norway Memorial Library, Oxford Hills Food Pantry, Unitarian Universalist Church and Western Maine Art Group.

Call the library at 743-5309 to sign up as a volunteer. The deadline to register is Thursday, Jan. 15.
