SALEM – Junior guard Jim Barker made two crucial free throws in the final seconds to lift Mt. Abram to a 41-40 victory over Monmouth in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday.

After a lackluster first couple of quarters and trailing 24-14 at the midpoint, the Roadrunners (3-6) raced back in the third frame to go neck-and-neck at 26-26. Down by one with 36 seconds remaining in regulation, Barker hit two from the charity stripe.

Senior center Corey Tripp scored 12 points, while senior forward Sam Simpson tallied 10 points for Mt. Abram.

Tim Whitemore notched a game-high 15 points for the Mustangs in the losing effort.

Dirigo 64, Boothbay 48

BOOTHBAY HARBOR – After being held scoreless in the first quarter, Tom Knight settled in by pouring in 27 points and gathering 15 rebounds as Dirigo knocked off Boothbay 64-48 in a battle of Mountain Valley Conference powers.

The Cougars (10-0) trailed 27-26 at half, but a staunch defensive effort in the third limited the Seahawks (8-2) to four points in the stanza and put the visitors up 46-31. Tyler Chaisson added 15 for the Cougars.

Dylan Brandt paced the Seahawks with 22 points.

Hall-Dale 71, Jay 63

JAY – Hall-Dale celebrated the return from injury by guard Tyler Cummings with a 71-63 triumph over Jay.

Cummings, who finished with nine points, had not played all season, but his return sparked the Bulldogs (3-6) to the upset victory.

Hall-Dale led throughout the game, but Jay (5-5) made a run in the third quarter and tied the game at 41-41 before falling back.

Dylan Stefani led Jay with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Kyle DeMillo added 11 points, while Jordan DeMillo and Kyle Storer had 10 points each.

Ryan Leach led Hall-Dale with 15 points and Keith McGillivary scored 14.

Rangeley 52, Greenville 51

RANGELEY – Senior guard Quinn Philbrick had a stellar performance with 26 points to lead Rangeley to a 52-51 victory over Greenville in EWC boys’ basketball action Friday.

With 28 seconds remaining, Rangeley (2-7) connected for a field goal and a free throw to take a four-point advantage. Richie Munster drilled a 3-pointer to bring Greenville to within one with eight seconds remaining on the clock, but the Lakers simply ran out of time.

Luke Elliott pitched in for Rangeley with 10 points, while Zeke Hall hauled down an impressive 18 rebounds. Tom D’Angelo notched a team-high 19 points for Greenville.

Gould 56, Sac. Valley 42

BETHEL – Scott Baribeau hit four of his six free throws down the stretch and Gould went on a 10-0 run to close out a 56-42 victory over Sacopee Valley.

The Hawks (1-8) cut a 15-point lead down to four in the final minutes, but the Huskies scored the final 10 points to ice the win. Baribeau led Gould (3-1) with 15 points, while Max Wales and George Murphy each contributed 12.

Sacopee Valley was led by Blais Whitney’s 15 points.

Wiscasset 80, Telstar 48

WISCASSET – Josh Sonia sparked a 24-5 run in the first quarter with three 3-pointers to send Wiscasset to a 80-48 victory over Telstar.

The lead grew to 41-14 at the half before Telstar (1-9) fought back with 21 points in the third quarter to make it respectable.

Sonia and Jason Dennison led the Redskins (9-1) with 12 points apiece in the balanced attack. All 12 Wiscasset players scored at least two points.

Joel Putnam led Telstar with 13 points and Dan Vaughn added seven points.
