LEWISTON – Lewiston Department of Recreation announces that there is still space in its current gymnastics classes. The classes began Jan. 6 and will run through Feb. 17. Classes are limited in number, with 10 participants in Tiny Tot, 18 in Beginners I & II, and six in Intermediate/Advanced. Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Class times are as follows: Tiny Tots (ages 3 1/2 to 5), 2:45-3:30 p.m. or 3:30-4:15 p.m. Tuesday; Beginner I (6-8), 4:15-5:15 p.m. Tuesday; and Beginner II (9-up), 5:15-6:15 p.m. Tuesday. Accelerated instruction from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursdays is available with prior approval of the instructor. Cost of the class is $40 for Lewiston residents; $55 for non-residents.

Registration may be made at the Department of Recreation, 65 Central Avenue, Lewiston, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. FMI, call 513-3005 (TTY/TDD 513-3007).

Black Mountain snowmobile climbs

RUMFORD – Black Mountain of Maine will hold its first of three scheduled snowmobile Hill Climbs on Friday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. Classes are designated as up to 500, up to 699, up to 899, 900 and up, and open. There also will be two classes for women.

Trophies will be awarded for the top three positions in both men’s and women’s classes.

If you want to race, don’t wait to register. Last season’s slots filled up with preregistrations. Riders don’t get to have all the fun; there is plenty of room for spectators as well.

The lodge will open at 4 p.m. for bib pick up and last-minute registration. Last-minute signups are subject to space availability and end at 5 p.m. All participants must sign a waiver, and those under 18 years of age must have the signature of a parent or guardian. The Café and Last Run Lodge will be open at 5 p.m. for your favorite snacks and beverages.

Registration fee is $15 in advance (before Jan. 15) or $20 after that date, plus gate fee. Gate and spectator fees are $3 for ages 6-12, $5 ages 13 and over. Children under 5 are admitted free. FMI, call Black Mountain at 364-8977 or e-mail www.skiblackmountain.org.

St. Joe’s presents girls’ sports clinics

STANDISH – In honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Saint Joseph’s College will host a free multi-sport event for girls in grades four through six from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1.

Varsity athletes from the St. Joe’s soccer, field hockey, volleyball, cross country, basketball, swimming, softball and lacrosse teams will provide skill instruction and fun competitions in each sport. There will be raffles for St. Joe’s gear and other fun prizes.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at Alfond Center on the day of the event. Girls are asked to bring a pair of clean sneakers to wear in the gym. FMI, email Deb Reardon at [email protected].
