AUBURN – A dangerous job turned deadly Tuesday when a self-employed logger working on property across from 282 Hersey Hill Road was killed by a falling tree, said Deputy Chief Jason Moen of the Auburn Police Department.

Auburn and Minot rescue crews were on the scene at 5:59 p.m. and assessed the quickest route to reach the 59-year-old man, whose identity was being withheld until his family was notified, Moen said in a written statement.

The entrance to the logging trail had been plowed, but it appeared that only snowmobiles and people on foot could make their way down the path.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Office of the State Medical Examiner were also notified, Moen said.

The incident is being investigated as a work-related accident, he said.
