LEWISTON – Robert G. St. Denis, 86, of Lewiston died Sunday, Jan. 11, at his home surrounded by his family after a long illness.

He was born in Coaticook, P.Q., Canada, on Aug. 28, 1922, a son of the late Samuel and Alma (Samson) St. Denis. After moving to Maine, he attended St. Peter’s School and Robert’s Academy.

On June 24, 1950, he married Irene Robichaud and together they raised their family in Lewiston. He was a self-employed carpenter who also worked for Phil Roy Construction. He later became the maintenance supervisor at St. Mary’s Hospital from 1977 to 1987. He was a member of St. Peter’s Parish his entire life. He enjoyed the summers at his cottage in Harpswell and the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was a devoted and caring husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Irene (Robichaud) St. Denis; two daughters, Anne and her husband, Philippe Moreau, of Greene and Diane and her husband, Thomas Stretton, of Lewiston; a son, Gerry St. Denis and his wife, Kelly, of Auburn; eight grandchildren, Andrew, Jimmy, and Elizabeth Moreau, Thomas and Timothy Stretton, Gregory, Michael and Kerri St. Denisl; a brother, Normand St. Denis of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Angel Alice Stretton.

The family wishes to thank his nurse, Bobbie Hill, and Dr. Austin and the staff of The Hospice House for all their services and care during his illness.
