BERWICK (AP) – The U.S. Labor Department has annnounced a $528,000 grant to help workers laid off from the Prime Tanning plant in Berwick.

Prime Tanning laid off workers in September and later ceased production at its Berwick facility. It still operates a tannery in Hartland.

The grant, which was awarded to the Maine Department of Labor, will offer job training in other fields such as advanced manufacturing, health care, retail and tourism.

Support services such as transportation and child care also will be available.
