AUGUSTA (AP) – The Maine attorney general’s office is warning Mainers to be wary of a new scam being circulated via e-mail.

While the federal government debates government stimulus payments, the Internal Revenue Service is not sending citizens e-mails announcing that they are eligible to receive any stimulus payments.

Senders are asking people to download a “Stimulus Payment Form,” fill it out, and return it to the sender. Attorney General Janet Mills’s Consumer Protection Division says those e-mails are a scam should be deleted from consumers’ inboxes.

It is just the latest version of a scam designed to get people to disclose personal financial information.
