This is in response to the “Tough people smart money” tip of Jan. 27. I was shocked to see that the Sun Journal would print a tip that is terribly unhealthy and unsafe to toddlers who depend on milk as part of their daily nutritional intake, and to all people who drink it for health reasons.
I understand that the economy has caused many people to tighten the purse strings and create a more strict budget, but at what expense – the health of children? Diluting milk with water cuts the fat content in half and drastically decreases the number of calories, amount of protein, calcium, and vitamins in each serving. It also puts children at severe risk of malnutrition, which in turn can impede their development, which can affect their educational potential.
I would hope the editors could find a more healthy tip to run, or one that was not so drastic.
If there are plans to continue to run tips that give that type of advice, please run a disclaimer: “Good for your wallet, bad for your kids.”
