CANTON – Nomination papers for five elective municipal positions are now available at the town office.

Administrator Kathy Hutchins said elections will take place on March 13 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the town office. The annual town meeting will follow at 9 a.m., Saturday, March 14, at the old town office, also known as the municipal building.

One three-year term for selectman, currently held by Jackie Conant, is open, along with two seats on the Planning Board, now held by longtime members Sue DeGroot and Bernard Adams, and two positions on the Budget Committee, currently held by Norris Conant and Kelly Cavanaugh. Each of the positions is a three-year term.

Those interested in running for any of the open seats must gather the signatures of at least 25 registered Canton voters and return the papers to the town office by 5 p.m., Feb. 15.

Hutchins said selectmen will also appoint two new members to the Budget Committee to fill out the remaining two years of a term begun by Clint Conant and one year begun by David Strout. Those appointments usually take place after the annual town meeting, she said.

Among the major issues to be decided by voters at the town meeting are those dealing with the fate of a parcel of land purchased to develop a new village center and several municipal ordinances.
