AUBURN – Germaine M. LaBonte, 91, of 91 Dow Ave., Lewiston, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the Clover Manor, where she had been a resident since October.

She was born in Lewiston, on Nov. 1, 1917, the daughter of Hilaire and Marion Ouellette Lapointe. Educated in Lewiston schools, she married Normand LaBonte on Sept. 15, 1947. He passed away March 22, 1972, after a six-year illness during which she lovingly cared for him.

She was employed for 15 years at the Continental Mill, and also worked for four years at the Marcotte Nursing Home, retiring in 1983. A member of Holy Family Parish, she had a lifelong love of music, played a banjo mandolin in a band during her youth, and often said that “without music, there would be nothing to live for.”

Survivors include a son, Bertrand and wife, Patricia, of Poland; a daughter, Theresa and husband, Bradley Saunders, of Hebron; a sister, Liane Lapointe of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Christine and husband, Jeffrey Lagueux, of Buckfield, Thomas LaBonte of Shrewsbury, Mass., Angela and husband, Justin LaFrance, of South Paris and Lael and husband, Matthew Osborne, of St. John, N.B., Canada; and five great-grandchildren, Emily Lagueux, Isaac LaFrance, Levi LaFrance, Lillian Osborne and Juliette LaFrance.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Irene Tardif; and a brother, Adolphe Lapointe.

The family would like to thank the staff of Clover Manor for the care they gave her during her final illness.
