LEWISTON – A break in a private water line feeding the Androscoggin Mill shut down Lisbon Street traffic between Cedar Street and Adams Avenue for several hours Wednesday morning.

Public Services Director Dave Jones said city crews notified the building’s owners of the break.

“It’s in a vault there, part of a 12-inch water service that only serves the mill,” Jones said. “We let them know that a break had occurred and it was up to them to fix it.”

The break disrupted eastbound traffic along Lisbon Street. Cedar Street was closed to motorists traveling toward Canal Street. Adams Avenue was closed to outbound traffic.

“But we got everything back to normal pretty quickly,” Jones said.

The Androscoggin Mill is used by Marden’s Inc. of Waterville as a warehouse. Marden’s hired crews from St. Laurent and Sons to make repairs.
