LEWISTON – Androscoggin County may soon have a permanent Register of Probate again.

The county’s Democratic Party nominated Lewiston lawyer Joshua Klein-Golden for the office at a caucus Wednesday. There were no other candidates. The nomination was sent to Gov. John Baldacci, who may appoint Klein-Golden.

The move came hours after Robert Couturier, Androscoggin County’s judge of probate, appointed a probate pro tempore to fill in until a permanent register is named.

The position has been empty for months. In November, county voters elected Leonard Bartels to the role, but he resigned the day after the election. The job has been empty since Dec. 31, when the term ended for previous register John Cleveland.
