BATH – A second- and third-place finish by Derek Morris and a pair of runners-up performances in the relay races propelled the Lewiston boys’ swim team to place second in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference championships on Saturday.
Brunswick edged the Blue Devils for the team title, 250-243. Morse was third at 212. Edward Little finished sixth.
In the girls’ division, Morse fought off Messalonskee 288-267, with Lewiston in third with 191 points. The Edward Little girls were also sixth.
The Lewiston boys did not win an event, but their superior depth paid off. Morris led the way with a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly and a third in the 50 freestyle.
The Devils also received third-place performances from Colby Miles in the 500 freestyle and Kurtis Stocker in the 100 breaststroke. Matthew Reed, David Tirabassi and Nate Chaloux also placed among the top six in at least one individual event.
Tim Brodsky of Edward Little matched Morris as the top local swimmer by placing second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 freestyle. Brodsky edged Morris in the 50 by 0.71 seconds.
Allysa Thomas led the Lewiston girls by placing third in the 100 breaststroke. Katherine Tirabassi took fourth in two events and Chelsey Provencher was fifth in two
Megan Hussar had a pair of fifths for EL.
