Author’s luncheon
NORWAY – A luncheon in honor of Winona Farrington’s new memoir, “Having Fun Along the Way: An Oxford Girl’s Journey,” will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Norway Memorial Library lower level conference room.
Farrington’s memories of growing up in Oxford, her life as a young married woman in East Stoneham and dealing with the ups and downs of her more recent experience are accompanied in her book by family photographs.
The public is invited to the luncheon; RSVP to Oxford Hills Adult Education at 743-8842, ext. 1. The book may be ordered through Creative Media on Main Street.
Library activities
WEST PARIS – Children of all ages are invited to decorate heart-shaped sugar cookies from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Valentine’s Day, Saturday, Feb. 14, at the West Paris Library, Main Street. There will also be craft supplies for making paper valentines.
On Wednesday, Feb. 18, there will be activities for children at the library. Call the library at 674-2004 for more information.
Sweetheart Dance
PARIS – The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club will have a Sweetheart Dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Oxford Hills Middle School, Pine Street.
Walt Bull will be the caller and Bernie Porter will be the cuer. The square dancing will be class level and plus level alternating with round dancing. Refreshments will be served at intermission. Admission is $6 a person. Non-dancers are invited to watch at no charge.

Joy of Skiing
NEWRY – The annual Joy of Skiing will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Sunday River Cross Country Ski Center.
The progressive picnic on skis will benefit the Maine Lung Association.
Doughnuts cooked along the trail, soup at the Artist’s Covered Bridge and s’mores by the campfire are three of the goodies to be sampled along the trail.
The event costs $7 for adults and $5 for children plus a trail pass. Preregistration tickets are available at $6 for adults and $4 for children. Call 824-2410 for more information.
Church supper
BETHEL – West Parish Congregational Church, Church Street, will hold an old-fashioned church supper from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21. The menu will include casseroles, baked beans, coleslaw, rolls and pie. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children.
Ice skating party
NORWAY – An ice skating party will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the ice rink on Cottage Street. It is open to people of all ages. There will be music, a bonfire and a potluck table for cookies, brownies and hot chocolate. ORONO – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension has announced publication of Maine Home Energy, a series of bulletins designed to help Mainers keep warm, save money, heat safely and conserve energy.
The bulletins can be freely downloaded at extension.umaine.edu (click “Publications”). Printed copies can be purchased by calling 800-287-0274 (in Maine) or 581-3792.
Topics available include weather-stripping doors and windows, making inexpensive indoor shutters, making insulated window coverings, heating a home safely and saving energy in apartments.
Bridge winners
NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Feb. 6 in the Fare Share Commons Building, Main Street. An eight-player individual game was held.
Finishing first were Priscilla Rooth and Jim Dickens, tied with a 57 percent game; tied for third and fourth, Hazel Glazier and Marta Clements.
