LEWISTON – Androscoggin Head Start received 40 boxes of diapers after a diaper drive at Community Credit Union. Board members, management, employees and members of the credit union raised more than $1,800 to help the children in the communities.

Board members, management and employees started the diaper drive by making personal contributions that amounted to $580. In addition, they held a 50/50 raffle during December to help raise additional funds. The raffle raised more than $1,200, providing $600 to purchase diapers and the other $600 going to a member.

“It was a pleasure to provide these diapers for Head Start; they provide a well-needed service for our communities. A special thanks goes out to our employees and more importantly our members; it would not have been as successful without them,” said Jennifer Hogan, marketing/training coordinator for Community Credit Union.

“We are very thankful for this wonderful donation. On a weekly basis, we go through more than 400 diapers, which you can imagine gets expensive,” said Estelle Rubenstein, executive director for Androscoggin Head Start.

Head Start is a program for children and their families, providing preschool and child care services, education, nutrition and support for families. Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care’s mission is to promote the positive growth of children, families and staff.
