Ski Heritage Classic to benefit museum
CARRABASSETT VALLEY – The second annual Ski Heritage Classic will be held Sunday, Feb. 15, at Sugarloaf/USA to benefit the Ski Museum of Maine.
The museum’s traveling display will be located in the Sugarloaf Base Lodge from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 14 and 15, and will show photos, memorabilia and historic equipment highlighting the industry’s growth from the 1900s through today.
The Vintage Ski and Clothing On-Snow Expo will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday. The public is invited to dress in classic clothing and display their old skis during the event on the “Landing” at the base lodge.
Participants will share stories of the artifacts on display, with a group photo at 3 p.m. A Vintage Ski and Clothing Parade will go from the Sugarloaf Base Lodge to the Sugarloaf Inn at 3:30.
A reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the inn with a $10 suggested donation. Included will be a silent auction from 4 to 5 p.m. and a live auction with Dick Keenan of Keenan Auction Co. from 5 to 5:30. More than 100 auction items have been donated from supporters throughout the state.
The museum continues to reach for its goal and mission statement: “To preserve and publicize the business of skiing in Maine while celebrating Maine’s ski history and heritage.”
