DEER ISLE – Arthur A. Doggett, 78, of Auburn and formerly of Portland, died Thursday, Feb, 12, at the Island Nursing Home on Deer Isle.

Arthur was born on Jan. 24, 1931, a son of the late Frank L. and Isabella (Johnson) Doggett. He attended Portland schools and graduated from Portland High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in two hitches. Arthur was stationed on various bases in the United States, Guam and in Okinawa, Japan, where he was injured and given his honorable discharge.

Arthur enjoyed watching both birds and planes as they flew by and had quite a large collection of binoculars to help him. He watched old movies including westerns, comedies and war movies and had a collection of musical cassettes from the 1950s and 1960s. He was also an avid reader, with his favorite reading material being medical books. He also held a special place in his heart for his monthly outing with his brother, David, that would include shopping and always stopping for lunch at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Mr. Laurier Raymond and his staff, and the staffs at St. Mary’s Hospital, the Odd Fellows Home, In Town Manor and the Togas Veterans Hospital. Your thoughtfulness and care will always be remembered.

Arthur is survived by his brother David Doggett and his wife, Audrey, of Lewiston; his sister, Muriel McIver and her husband, Arthur, of Lake City, Fla.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Frank, John and Harry Doggett, Elizabeth Hollenbough, Allison Mason and Ellen Doggett.
