EUSTIS – A Eustis man was injured Monday when he couldn’t stop his car on snow-covered Route 27 and slid under the trailer of an Associated Grocers’ truck backing into the Pines Market lot, Maine State Police Trooper Scott Stevens said.
The car driven by Shawn Lord, 26, was heading north when it slid under the trailer and struck the front set of trailer tires, Stevens said.
Sean Finn, 33, of Randolph, was backing the 2005 Freightliner tractor and trailer diagonally across Route 27 into the market parking lot to make a delivery when the accident occurred, Stevens said.
Lord was able to get out of the 2000 Pontiac Grand Am by himself, Stevens said.
Market employees and an off-duty U.S. Customs officer aided Lord at the scene until Stevens arrived shortly after it was reported about 8:40 a.m.
Lord complained of head, neck and back pain, but his injuries were not life-threatening, he said.
He was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital by NorthStar Emergency Medical Services, he said.
The car, owned by Lord’s mother, Wanda Ellsworth of Eustis, was totaled, Steven said. Minimal damage was done to the tractor-trailer.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Cpl. Steve Charles and Eustis firefighters assisted Stevens at the scene.
Lord was still being treated mid-afternoon at the Farmington hospital, spokeswoman Jill Gray said.
