RUMFORD – The Greater Rumford Community Center competition gymnastics team is halfway through its competition season, with the state meet scheduled April 25-26 in Ellsworth.

Thirty-six gymnasts from Rumford, Mexico, Bethel, Dixfield, Weld, Wilton and surrounding communities are in the program. Competitors range in age from 6 to 19.

GRCC gymnasts gave competed at meets in Mount Desert Island, Bath, Old Town and Waterville. All 36 have successfully qualified for the state meet through preliminary competition. Twelve also have qualified for the New England regional, including all six states plus New York, to be held May 14-16 at St. George, N.Y.

Three meets remain this season for other gymnasts to earn a regional bid. They must attain an all-around score two times in their level in order to participate.

High scorers in their respective levels are:

Level 4: Emma Casey, 36.00 all-around; Sydney Woods, 34.60 all-around; Abbie Blauvelt, 9.00 beam, 8.7 floor; Jeana Ronan, 33.55 all-around; Lauren Sterling, 9.0 vault; Ashley Smith, 9.3 beam, 8.7 floor; Celine Bolduc, 35.00 all-around; Tessa Pingree, 34.90 all-around.

Level 5: Gabrielle Chartier, 32.50 all-around; Olivia Martin, 9.0 beam, 8.9 floor.

Level 6: Isabella DeLuca, 33.45 all-around; Tamyra Steward, 31.50 all-around.

Level 9: Megean Bourgeois, 31.85 all-around.

Level Prep Op: Cassie Veilleux, 33.05 all-around; Molly Bruce, 33.65 all-around; Misty Steward, 33.05 all-around; Kirstin Ridge, 33.80 all-around; Bethany Gordon, 8.9 floor.

The team’s next meet is March 21 in Lewiston. The public is invited to watch the team practice Mondays and Wednesdays. The younger gymnasts work out from 4 to 6 p.m., with the older competitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations also are welcome, sent to GRCC in care of the Gymnastics Program.
