Chris Dunn, 20, of Auburn, applies for a passport from Passport Acceptance Agent Kathy Stetson at Andover College in Lewiston on Thursday. “It started with my group of students I’m taking on a cruise to Canada,” said event organizer Mimi Gough, department chairwoman for the Travel and Hospitality Management Program at Andover. “They realized they would need a passport as of June 1 – we’re leaving June 11 – so we thought why not open it up to the public.” Dunn, who is a University of Maine student, liked the ease of visiting only one place to obtain the travel document and planned on using his passport for trips to Canada and on his semester at sea. March 28 is National Passport Day and people can visit www.usps.com to find a local office with extended hours that day.
